Art and Wine in Italy

A little plug here; in case any of you might want to take a tour of Northern Italy this fall and just haven’t found the right travel package.

Though the central focus of BuildaBridge international is to provide services to the world’s most at-risk children, we can occasionally arrange other sorts of experiences. Our international program coordinator is Italian; for generations, her mother’s family has operated a small winery in the the Franciacorta region. She has arranged a group trip to Italy to experience this land firsthand.

From the BuildaBridge website:
Churches and monasteries; villas and castles; hillsides and vineyards; lakes and mountains; traditional Italian cuisine and exceptional wine are just some of the attractions of the BuildaBridge trip to Northern Italy. During this international experience, your home will be a medieval Villa restored with respect to architectural traditions and using local materials. The Villa is central to great cities of art and culture including; Venice, Milan, Bergamo, Brescia, and Verona.

Some of the cultural explorations featured on Art & Wine in Italy include: The Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci; historic cathedrals; Roman-era villas and temples; medieval monasteries; and the discovery of the Franciacorta tradition of wine making. You will visit the cantine; pick grapes on the traditional Italian vendemmia; learn the process of wine making; and, of course, enjoy some of the best and most genuine wine in Italy.

Your guide will be Elisa Schwab Clewis, BuildaBridge Overseas Program Coordinator. Elisa is a northern Italian but moved to the United States in 2005. For centuries, her family has owned a small winery in the Franciacorta region; they will open their vineyard for you to experience traditional wine making. She will reveal secrets of the region to you, reaching far beyond the expected tourist sites, allowing you to personally live a remarkable and true Italian experience.
